WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (WPEC) — Don is back to tropical storm strength Sunday morning after briefly becoming the first hurricane of the 2023 Atlantic hurricane season Saturday night.
The tropical storm is about 350 miles southeast of Newfoundland and continues to move to the northeast at 16 mph with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph.
Don is expected to continue to weaken through the end of the weekend and forecast to become post-tropical by the start of the week.
So far this season there have been five storms and now one hurricane, Don. The next name of the season is Emily.
Meanwhile, the tropical disturbance located about 900 miles east of the Windward Islands in the central Atlantic has dropped its odds of development, now only a 40% chance over the next seven days.
The system could still become a tropical depression as it moves west towards the Caribbean before moving into an unfavorable area with strong upper-level winds by midweek.
